Comfortably and legally, might be two different things.

Depends on the payload capability of your truck. Yellow sticker in the door jam.

From that, subtract the weight of you, any passengers and everything else you've put in or on the truck since factory.

Tongue weight shouldn't exceed what is left but should be at least 10% of trailer weight.

If you didn't get Trailer Tow or Max Tow, the legal limit is 7,000#. I believe it is 11,600# if you have Trailer Tow, and 12,700# if you have Max Tow, but you'll want to confirm that. Regardless of trailer weight, you'll still be limited by the truck payload.

2021 Ford F-150 Trailer Towing Selector

Take a look at this, you should have an 11k lb towing capacity at the least, but there is a footnote saying not to exceed 7k or 6k without the "trailer tow package." as far as I know the only major performance difference with or without is the trailer brake controller.

Note: The Hybrid "payload" is bad due to weight of batteries and if you have moon roof, 4x4..etc.

My payload is only 1333lbs. My tounge weight on my Airstream is 833lbs, I'm 200lbs, wife about 130, dog 60, ice chest full of ice and beer, I am maxed out if I fill both propane bottles, additional 60lbs. Cannot add chairs for camping/hunting, firewood, generator...etc.

I can tow over 12,000 lbs because of the tow package, Airstream is 7600lbs. It's the payload for me.

Needless to say I ordered a 2023 SD.
