Default Lane Crntering

The Ford.com site states that Lane Centering helps keep the vehicle centered in the lane provided there are appropriate lane markings on the road. They further state Lane Centering is NOT limited to the approved zones of interstate highways, it’s supposed to work on secondary roads also. I found Lane Centering to be at best, a tell-tale tag to the police of an intoxicated driver. It wanders back and fourth between the lane markings. So I asked a local cop if he would follow me while I had Lane Centering engaged and asked him what he thought. He told me he would have pulled me over for a sobriety test! True, my 2021 F-150 did not leave the lane but the constant “wandering” back and fourth between the lane markers on both secondary roads and limited access highways is very disconcerting. I intend on subscribing to Blue Cruise (if it ever gets here) and wonder if the subscription will “tighten up” the wandering I have experienced? Comments on both Lane Centering AND when I will see something from Ford about the availability of Blue Cruise are welcome.

the lane centering on my truck is amazing. it keeps my truck dead center in the lane, no wandering unless the road markings are not clear but 99.9% of the time its dead on

Aren't you supposed to have your hands on the steering wheel when driving and paying attention to the road.....

I use it regularly on my 21 platinum. No issues and is well centered in the lane. Have u adjusted the settings of lane centering? There are some options there to make it aggressive.

I just got blue cruise through OTA software update this week and lane centering works really well.

My lane centering used to work much better, but since the 2.3.0 update it is a wanderer now. There are many with this complaint. Some have taken their trucks in for camera realignments and recalibrations but I have not heard of any where it fixed the wandering issue. To me, it seems like it is the SW doing it. Maybe they found there were people using the great lane centering to help them drive home from the bar drunk so they dumbed up the algorithm a bit making the driver work a bit harder....

I have not heard if Blue Cruise makes the wandering better. My truck is in the shop as we speak trying to get BC added, but they are having the typical issues I hear many others having, so hard to say when I might get it back to confirm...

As far as the secondary roads, one thing that I come up against all the time is headlights. On non-divided secondary roads, headlight glare makes the system go bonkers so I must leave it off when driving at night.

I do keep my hands on the wheel, but I find if you fight the truck's wandering, it gets more aggressive in its corrections and then really starts to weave from line to line until it slowly settles down again.

Coming from Honda and its adaptive cruise and lane centering, I'm liking Ford's version much more. Its more capable, plus you can customize its warnings and level of activity to meet your preferences. None of Honda's "We know what's right for you".

So to the concept that drunks will use it, unless you move the steering wheel every few seconds it will alert you, then ultimately switch off (see owners manual for details). So hopefully, you'll run off the road and crash your truck before anyone else is harmed. Ford obviously learned from Tesla's sleeping driver syndrome.....

Lane Centering on my wife's Escape Titanium does a great job until there is a gap in the lane markings for left and right turn lanes. It doesn't impact it so much at highway speed but if I use cruise in town on 30-40 mph roads it wanders at every turn lane. I also am hoping I get to try out BlueCruise this year but since BlueCruise is only on pre-mapped highways, I don't anticipate any issues; when it falls back to regular adaptive cruise, off the mapped highways, I'm interested to see if they have improved its capabilities.

So where are the settings for "lane centering"? I have a 302A with Assist 2.0 and use it all the time with my adaptive cruise. It does wander from side to side (line to line) a bit, especially if the lane is wider than normal.
I see in my settings menu a setting for lane keeping; but not lane centering.
These do not sound like the same thing.
Can someone in the know, confirm this?

Lane Keeping and Lane Centering are not the same thing. You can have Lane Keeping, or Lane Keeping and Lane Centering; depending on the options your vehicle is equipped with.

Lane Keeping is definitely more of a ping-pong game, whereas Lane Centering is more aggressive in keeping your vehicle.... "centered"
