Default Issues after plugging in SCT X4

Hey guys. New to the forum here and search and Google aren't doing me much good right now. I've got a 22 Navigator (I know, not a F150) and the SCT X4 7015PG-B is supposed to be compatible; however, it may required custom tunes. In any event, I followed the SCT instructions (vehicle off, unplugged PCM, connected SCT plug, box, tuner, power, etc.) and when I went to program the vehicle, it said not supported. Figured no big deal, I'll unhook everything and order a custom tune. However, once I hooked everything back up as stock (again, no tune ever loaded and stock file not pulled), started the vehicle up and dash is lit up like a Christmas tree, extremely rough idle that smelled rich and I cut the truck off immediately. I've re-checked the three PCM connections and all are tight.

I intend to contact MPT tomorrow as well as SCT but are there any suggestions any of you may have or ran into the same issue with your 21+ F150?

Wait you unplugged the PCM prior to connecting the X4? First time I've heard that being part of the instructions. Can you post a pic of those instructions? Seems odd. How would the X4 be able to load tunes/download stock if the PCM is disconnected? Hmm.

My apologies. Misspoke and meant undoing the plugs to the ECU under the hood. However, in the meantime, I did pull and clear all DTCs and she’s back to running normal so hopefully this info will help anyone else that may run into the issue.

just installed a tune on my '22 ford explorer using that same tuner and I have had one on my '18 f-150 for a few years now. I believe the instructions were to use Device Updater on a PC to update the device, then plug into your vehicle. Anyway, no issues.

YOu don't go through the OBD port now. You connect directly to the pcm and get your power from the battery. You have to remove all connectors to pcm before connecting.

These devices don't come with tunes anymore. You have to get your strategy code from your PCM then send it to whoever is doing your so they can write you a tune compatible with your PCM. Hopefully you didn't screw anything up.
