Issue after OTA update
I have a ‘21 Powerboost that I bought in Aug. I sometimes pull a small trailer that I setup the Pro Trailer yawn sensor and everything worked fine. Forward to about 2 weeks ago and I received my first OTA update. Now, when I plug in the trailer, it is not detected. Although I don’t really use it, I tried to see if going into the ProTrailer mode would work and it initialized and picked up the sensor, but it still says Trailer Not Detected on the main screen. When I try to backup, the rear collision sensors start beeping and it eventually applies the brake as it thinks I am about to run into something, that being the trailer. I can hit the button to turn off the braking part, but it no longer detects the trailer. All worked perfect up until the OTA update I am presuming as it worked till then and today was the first time pulling since then. Same trailer with zero changes. I tried unplugging the pro assist and it made no difference. All lights work properly on the trailer. It is a single axle with no brakes, so can’t comment on that part. Anyone else see anything similar to this behavior?
Thanks all! Have a great Sunday evening and a great upcoming holiday season!

I also forgot to mention that also today, when I switched on the cruise control it says Automatic Speed Limit sign recognition disabled…. I wonder if I am in the midst of an update that has updated some modules and not others. The OTA message I got was PowerUp 1.6. I also noticed that it took about 5 minutes to switch over to CarPlay when previously it would turn on as soon as the phone connected. I didn’t think much about it until I just read on another forum about all of the OTA update issues people seem to be having, and CarPlay was one mentioned.
Thanks again all!
Thanks again all!
With OTA updates, there seem to be a few realities:
- It may take more than a day or two for the update to fully be accepted by the vehicle.
- Modules (at least on the Mach-E) are A/B. They get new downloads to one side, and try them. If it fails, they switch back.
- There is no way to know if the update is fully complete / accepted.
- There is no way to know what "version" you're on, as OTA updates may not come in order. And, updates provided at a dealer may negate OTA updates, and aren't numbered.
Have you tried deleting the trailer and then setting it up again? If you're going to do that, I'd delete it, then shut off the truck, and exit, and let it sit for a few minutes, then set the trailer up again.

I got a message a few weeks back in the Ford Pass app that said I was updated to 1.6.... Nothing since then... I went out this morning to see if I could find SW version numbers for Sync and now it won't connect to my WiFi anymore....
@Ricktwuhk thanks for the info about the update process. I know what you mean about way to know what version you are on. I searched and searched. Only reason I know about the 1.6 update was the email. For the trailer issue, no, I didn't try deleting anything at this point in time. I will wait for a bit to see if anything changes or if another OTA update message arrives. But now as I stated a moment ago in my reply to Jus Cruisin, it is not even connecting to WiFi now... I tried deleting and resetting up the connection but I just get the message the it fails... Will be hard to receive new updates without a network connection... Not sure what to do at this point but wait for a bit and see if it is mid process on something... Hopefully things will smooth out... Thanks!!
After many attempts today, I was finally able to get WiFi to reconnect. Now hopefully if things were in the process of updating they can continue. I hope to try reconnecting the trailer tomorrow to see if that issue has resolved, along with the automatic speed limit sign recognition. Still no sign of BlueCruise, but I know I am but one of many in that boat…. Not that big of a deal for me as the areas I travel in most are not BC-enabled. It will probably come and I won’t even notice it…
one other thing I just noticed for the first time this evening was the screen for wireless app projection. Not sure if that came with v1.6 and I just never noticed it or if it is something new. I don’t recall seeing it when I went through my initial setup when I bought the truck. I have been using wireless CarPlay but never noticed the separate Wi-Fi network for it. I have to say that I don’t spend time poking through menus much once I set things how I want them…. I imagine it came with 1.6.

Today I tried using the cruise control again to see if the speed sign recognition was resolved. It worked fine for my trip into town but coming home it turned off again with the same error message. I saw many other people on another F150 forum that are having the same issue that has arisen since they have received their 1.6 PowerUp OTA, so this may be something in the software. It worked flawlessly for the first 2600 miles, pre OTA 1.6. I sure hope Ford gets these OTAs figured out soon. It is a pain in the rump.
