ok for a short drive but no longer the vehicle of choice for family trips.

Has anyone had luck uninstalling the interior work surface? (I saw a swap video but for the version on a console, so different design than the jump seat version)

The service dept at my dealer thinks it cant be done….and the customer service folks at the ford corporate line had no clue.

Advice, recs appreciated!
My brother-in-law is having the same issue. He wants to swap his xlt 40/20/40 bench seat work surface console (he has the column shifter) for the standard console. He has no use for the work surface and wants something that’s more comfortable.

Were you able to swap yours out? Does anyone have the standard part # for the front console? Do you need to replace the whole front console assembly?

Default No luck

I have no info, except that the Ford customer service folks had no idea, and neither did Bill Pierre Ford in Seattle or the folks in Kirkland. The Ford customer service barely could understand what the part was conceptually and definitely could not give me a part number. Its like they cannot imagine ever changing it out.

The console + WS is very different from jump seat + WS. Wish I had your setup instead!

I ordered your configuration. Extended drives seat up and all sorts of options. Cushions, small cooler, arm around better half.

Exactly. And if you have an item on the passenger seat, as the driver, it's extremely difficult to just lean over and grab what's on the seat.

I do have three 40/20/40 config with with surface but works like to find out if there's a way to replace just the top half (work surface) part of the "20" and replace it with the non work surface version, I.e keep the jump seat but with the leather arm rest top.

Or worse case, getting a part number to replace the entire center jump seat to convert jump seat with with surface to jump seat without with surface.

Anyone have luck on the with the Gen14s?

This might be an option to add some padding. Although it would just make it higher.

Default ford customer service

The ford service department says there “is no fix” and the only option is to pull the entire seat w work surface and replace with a new center seat.

this says to me that some engineering is required to come up with a part to place on the back of the center seat after the work surface is removed.

Not sure how hard this would be as DIY

This may be your only source with these tight times in the auto industry.
Can say the full console in a 22 XLT 302a with the work surface is padded.
Good luck.

Padding the hard surface would be one of the simplest mods that any upholsterer can do. Heck you can even get a customized piece of leather. Put your family coat of arms on it instead of the King Ranch. Or favorite sports team logo. Even make it heated. This is not a deal killer. More of an opportunity to mod. Love my work desk right now. When I drive it on a big 2000 mile road trip later this spring, we will see how it goes.
