Default I might be the first..

Walked up to the truck (XLT) keyless entry and tried to perform a remote start. Didn't work, okay, not a big deal. So I open the door and perform a push button start. Toss the keys on the seat and close the door to clean up my work vehicle next to it.

Next thing you know, I try to open the door and it's locked lol. Engine running, no big deal. I have the FordPass app!

Nope, every attempt to unlock the door via app gave me a unlock door failure prompt. Tried multiple times. Then I had my gf try from her phone. Same response.

Next step was to do a roadside assistance request. I thought it would be some sort of remote unlock done from the server. Nope, they sent a locksmith person who was 30 mins out. I imagined he would have to Jimmy the car or something and I didn't want that done on the truck. So I just told my gf to come over with the spare.

The truck auto shut off after 30 mins so that was good.

Right when I got home, I setup my keypad code lmao. I'm not sure if it will work while the engine is running and the keys are inside. I'll test that later.

Yikes, I always assumed that if the keys got locked inside a push-button vehicle it would just open if you pulled the handles... Glad I've never tested that out!

Have you talked to your dealer at all? Probably gonna get an XLT here in the next couple months so I'm curious if there's going to be a TSB or something...

Interesting it shut off idling after 30 mins, i wonder what that's about.

Keypad should work with keys inside, that's one of the benefits. Your default code would be in the manual book on a card, could have used that in this instance.

The shut off after 30 minutes is a FordPass setting I believe.

But yeah, I just think it was user error. I set up the key code and feel like it's an awesome feature now lol.

The app not working however was kind of annoying. Lesson learned.

App proceeded to work when the truck left that particular parking lot. Maybe it was reception.

Other thing of note, although for the 12th gen - the remote start feature seems to read as if your truck is locked, it will perform a remote start, wherein the instructions say to lock the truck, then remote start - as i'd not managed to work out why mine seemed intermittent, i've temporarily decided the following;

Truck requires a recent lock action, not just for it to be locked (no idea on time-out)
Then remote start can be triggered.

That's how it worked on my '13. Had to first push lock then remote button to get it to work. Wouldn't start with just the remote button alone even if the truck was locked.

Remote start sequence on my '17 was lock - start - start. And keys have to be outside the vehicle to activate the door handle switch. Keypad worked fine with vehicle started.

95% of the time I use the Fordpass App to start my 2017 truck. The default on the app is 15min running. You can add more time with the app in 5 min increments. Don't know what the time limit is using the fob. If you have the truck idling from a normal start, the truck will turn off after 30min unless you hit cancel when the warning pops up that it will turn off.

Cool. XLT now comes with pushbutton.

Glad to see it has finally trickled down.

As for 30 minutes, I think that is normal. Many thread here bitch and moan about wanting the truck to idle indefinitely. Those folks who have a need to leave the vehicle running for extended periods of time.

I'd have to check the owners manual, but I'm not going to.

I am quite intrigued as to how the doors ended up being locked. Nowhere did OP indicate anything about having locked the door.
