Hybrid question
Considering a hybrid F150.
If driving around town, can I use only electric mode? Or will the truck switch to gas mode at times?
I drive on average 25-30 miles a day, and top speed for only a few miles is 70 mph. I'm thinking I would never really need to use gas mode with this few of daily miles? Or am I missing something?

The small high-voltage battery is more for providing torque (specified max motor torque is 221 lb-ft) than fuel efficiency. That's why it's such a good towing truck, and that's why they call it the PowerBoost rather than advertising it much as a hybrid. The battery is quite small, as @markwang notes, and will quickly and repeatedly discharge and charge. You might get sequences of 2 miles or so of electric travel, and it sounds like your commute (with not much highway driving) would be conducive to the higher mileage, but your gas engine will run more than half the time.
I'm just over three years in with the hybrid. Approx 10% of my milage is in pure electric mode. It is more of an assist as noted above and will slip into electric mode while cruising at speeds around 25-35 mph especially when assisted by winds and road pitch (I am in Ontario, Canada so am guessing a bit on the conversion). It is not the equivalent of a plug in hybrid but I have documented noticeable fuel efficiency gains vs. my older truck which was the straight eco-boost. Don’t regret the purchase at all but would love if there was a step up from the power boost with a longer range battery/plugin option vs. having to go full EV.
I also drive with a very light foot, when you hammer on it, it is fun and fast but there is no efficiency to be had.

Agreed. I'm eager to see what the Extended Range EV F-150 is going to look like in a few years. Electric drivetrain with ICE generator to provide the charge. Really going to be made for towing/camping.
love my PB, mostly city driving and anything around the 70 kph (45 mph) or less it will switch in and out of battery mode at about a 40(battery)/60(gas) split. I'm averaging around 8.9 l/100km (26.4 mpg) in the city and 10.2 l/100lm (23 mpg) on the hwy at an average speed of 117 kph (72 mph). Although Saskatchewan Canada is pretty flat, I get these gas mileage pretty consistent, and I imagine those numbers will change when hills or mountains are involved.

When I change my oil and I want the engine to come on I switch it to tow mode.

If you get one make sure you get the 7.2kw generator. It's really really nice to have. Amazing what it will run. Your House, Camper, Welder, etc the list goes on and on...
