Hail Protection?
Just got news today that I've got a VIN and a build date on the Platinum PB that I ordered a month and a half ago. Super pumped!
Anyway, I'm in Colorado and over the last few years we've had hellacious hail storms a couple of times a year. I'm talking larger than golf ball sized hail. Some I swear were nearly the size of a baseball. Since my truck won't fit into my garage what are people doing to protect from hail? I've looked at car ports but I'm not sure I want to put one in front of my house (only place I could do that). I've seen some of the truck cover options but they seem lacking.
Considering that my 16 year old Nissan Frontier has been through some viscous hail storms with little to no damage am I over thinking this?

hail hitting the paint of any car can cause light scratching. large hail anyway. if you could build a carport to keep your truck in during storms, thats better than risking damaging your truck
think about it this way. your buying a $70,000+ truck, your frontier is probably a $5,000-$7,000 truck. and i could bet that the hood and roof of that frontier is more solid than on the truck your buying

I live in north Texas where we constantly get hail storms. One several years ago blew out my 2011 F150 sunroof and damaged the paint to the point they had to completely repaint it. No bueno.
I’m in a similar predicament where I can’t get my truck into a closed garage by a few inches. So we watch the weather carefully and every time we think the weather might bring hail, I pull it into our big garage and my wife squeezes her Yukon Denali XL ‘school bus’ into our smaller one. It sucks, but no way I’m going through all that damage again with a new truck. Hope you’re able to figure it out!

A fellow texan on the "other" forum bought a hail protector and posted a video. His earlier post described it.

That seems like a great idea if you have the time to inflate that before it hails. Unfortunately I've never been able to do anything about hail until it's too late. I would opt for carport as it provides more protection from multiple elements then just hail.
It is a given that the risk of hail damage increases proportionally to the value/newness of the vehicle. You can be sure to get on helluva hail storm this year, after purchasing the new truck.
A carport would be your best option insofar as protecting your vehicle at your house...but as you note, maybe doesn't really fit in with the exterior, etc. And the bitch of it all is...what about all the OTHER times the vehicle is out and about? One could extrapolate that the vehicle would be "safe" only 33% - 54% of the time, even WITH a carport at your house.
Hail...sucks. Like others here, I have been through some devastating hail storms over the years with severe property damage.

Thanks guys. This is pretty much what I expected.
Bajaman, I hear you regarding when you're out an about. Other than pulling into a gas station or some other covered place there's not much I can do. The only thing I have domain over is at home. I am contemplating just getting a heavy duty truck cover and storing it in the truck bed during the Spring and early Summer.
