FX4 or No FX4?

FX4 or No FX4?
I am very likely to have to order my 2021 Platinum 701A because I do not want the sunroof. If I could find one already on the lot without a sunroof, I would take it with or without the FX4 package without a second thought. I have read the features this includes, but what are the opinions of those with more experience with this package? Does the FX4 package have an impact on ride quality? I do not intend to do an off-roading with this truck if that matters. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The last two F-150s I've had were FX4 packages...in my opinion the ride is a little 'firmer', the handling a touch 'crisper' than a non-FX4...probably due to the shocks more than anything.

I haven't driven one with it, but I did drive one without it. Rode like a dream. My truck will be on the street only and I just don't need the skid plates or sticker. The salesman told me it rode a bit stiffer, but nothing harsh or uncomfortable. I did not order it on my truck. I should have my truck in a couple weeks.

90% of people with an FX4 would be just fine with a 4x4

It's a $905 option...or at least was on the 2020 models. I do know that when I traded my 2010 in, the customer service manager said, "Oh, good...it's an FX4...that'll help get your trade value...", so...must be worth something in the long run. And it IS kind of nice to have the skid plates, etc...just extra protection, even if, like 90% or more of these trucks, you never go off-roading.

I think it's worth it. Starting in 2018 or 2019, it started to come with the rubber floor mats which a full set aftermarket is $200-ish. Then skid plates, which even if not off roading can have advantages if you go over a detached tread on the highway or who knows what, especially when driving at night. Unlikely? Yeah, but still doesn't hurt to have. The locking rear axle is included, which I think is $500 or 600 on its own. Axle doesn't get used a ton, but it helped quite a bit just recently during a trip where the place we rented was at the bottom of a steep driveway and they got a looooot of snow. Made it easier to crawl up where a friend had to get a running start with his non locker F-150, which is a sketchier move. Plus it will hold some value at resale, even if just $100-200 (although I think its value is higher as trucks with it are more "attractive" to buyers, so even if value isn't more, it may sell quicker).
In all, I think there is no reason not to get it. Ride isn't stiffer, it has the same shocks as the non-FX4 F-150 in the rear, and modified in the front, but the front us always loaded (due to engine and cab), so the difference is negligible if it even exists, they are just more durable in the front. Add to that hill descent control, which was also nice to have on the previously mentioned driveway, even if that was more for fun than necessity, and in 2021 it has a Rock Crawl Mode that the non-FX4 or Tremor F-150s don't get.
Some of this stuff can be added using FORSCAN (like hill descent and likely rock crawl when they find the code), but you have to add a button for hill descent which means messing with your dash. Bottom line, if you are already ordering a $50k+ truck and it won't stop you from getting something else, I recommend it. My 2017 didn't have it, but did have the locking rear, and when I went to order my '19, after adding the locking rear and shopping for tray style floor mats, my salesman pointed out for the price of those two things essentially I could just get the FX4. I also get A-Plan, which means my real cost of adding it was even lower, but even at full price, I say go for it.

I test drove both and noticed a considerable difference in ride so I ordered No FX4..., Seeing that 98% of my driving will be on pavement, it was an easy choice. I'll still have 4x4 for occasional off road, snow and heavy rain if needed.
