Decision Help
I’ll make it quick. My local dealership is allotted 6 lightnings. Im 5 out of 48. They also were allotted 11 broncos and have gotten 2. In the military (active) but currently going to school with a 57 mile trip (114 round trip) daily. Live up in north east area, Maine NH mass. I’m looking for a bridge for a couple years. Another part is either towing a 1976 bronco or contracting out after school 2024.
based on 3.29 a gallon which fluctuates. My current 2010 is 125$ a week, powerboost is 75$, and maverick would be $47.
currently own 2010 f150 5.4 with 182k lifted on 35” and gets around 15-17mpg(baby the truck). School will be 2.5 more years. Looking at a bare bones maverick hybrid or maverick hybrid (43 city/33hw/37 com) or a powerboost f150 (24/24/24). Since I have little faith in lightning arriving on time and with cold weather here I need an alternative with powerboost or maverick. Another item is also potentially living RV life after school. One kid maybe two by then. Currently have two dogs although it might be one at that time.
maverick pro: cheap, great mpg, new. Con: front wd(NE winters), less interior space (dogs/kids), no towing, can’t take long road trips with full fam, it’s basic. Big Con: interior space.
f150 powerboost pro: 7.2 generator (live in NE lose power), hybrid decent mpg for big truck, big interior, similar footprint to current, potential RV capability. Con: very expensive (60-70), high octane fuel. Depreciates immediately. What’s available in 2024 (2nd gen lightning?)?.
Welcome to all opinions and comments. Trying to figure something out as I need to flip my current f150 here soon (reliability with school).

So...are you needed to tow anything? I don't understand the last sentence of the first paragraph.
I'd just sit back and look at the facts. As you've written this, it appears that you have a concern of fuel costs and that...your current truck is too expensive? But (assuming that truck is paid for), it could get TWO mpg and you'd still save a fortune every month in overall cost by NOT having a vehicle payment and perhaps associated higher insurance rates.
Have you considered a Ranger?

Can tell you that buying a power boost will maybe in the winter return about 20-21mpg. Lower temps lower battery output.
The power boost in it's lowest form a XL is going to cost close to 50K.
Don't fret so much about FWD with the right tires they can go places.
Just sit the old truck aside, then buy the 1/2 the price Maverick over the power boost.
2.5 years when done with school re-access your needs.
Batteries and vehicle technology are changing at such a rapid rate it is very hard foresee things in 2024.5
If someone would have told me your going to own a hybrid truck in 2021 a few years back, the answer was oh ya for sure.

This appears to be more a want than a need, as most of us are. In school I would say run the current one until graduation, you will have better buying power due to supply.
