Default Compressor oil

I took this video a few months ago before I replaced some a/c components in my 2003 F150 4.2L.
what I found out was, the system was dry of oil, that's what was causing the ticking noise your hearing. I bought the truck last year so I wasn't aware of the issue. Has anyone actually taken their compressor out to replace the oil as maintenance ? If your truck is over 150,000 miles, it might not be a bad idea to replace the oil in the compressor so your compressor doesn't fail like the one here in the video.

The system is sealed, meaning nothing in or out. You should not be replacing oil in the system as a matter of routine maintenance. If oil has escaped it means you have a leak in the system and it needs to be repaired. Also if the system is low on refrigerant it will cycle on and off like yours is doing. The are other situations where it may cycle as well. Given that you are low on oil, it only seems logical to assume you are low refrigerant as well and that is the reason for the cycling Compressor and that undoubtedly annoying ticking noise.

thanks for the reply. I got the whole system replaced, I replaced the condenser, compressor, and accumulator, and the orifice.

Sorry, I'm in the wrong part of town here, I've been over on the 2003 f150 forum.
