Default Cold start chirp

Anybody w/ a 3.5EB have a cold start chirp? Heard it this morning; it went away in maybe 20 seconds? Didn’t come back on subsequent restarts. I assume it’s something to do w/ oil not getting to where its needed after a cold soak? Definitely not a rattle, its a chirp.

Also I’ve noticed (whether this is new or not I have no idea) a repeatable chirp (very slight) that I can hear when I very lightly tap/nudge the accelerator. I was driving w/ my windows open in a parking deck when I first heard it so I started to pay attention more. I can hear a very faint chirp when I lightly tap the gas pedal while driving slow. I’ve read this is somewhat ‘normal’ w/ either the turbos or actually the 10 speed (which I don’t quite get).

So I figured I’d post up and ask you guys.

Thoughts? 1550 miles on it.

You sure it's not a belt chirping i hear it on my 3.5 EB when it's been raining but it goes away after running for a little bit?

Could be I suppose, at least yesterday morning’s start up. It’s been raining. I’ll see if this happens when it’s not raining.

Well, this AM when it was completely dry I had no startup chirp. So maybe you’re right about the belts and humidity/wet.

However, I still have a small chirp upon throttle input. I can even put the truck in neutral and feather the gas very lightly and get it to chirp. I’ll see what my dealer has to say when I bring it in.

Mine did a chirp or "whistle" since new. Dealer replaced the Alternator and the tensioner. Chirp isn't as loud now, but there is still a slight "whistle" when idling.

Still chirping on throttle manipulation. I thought maybe it might work itself out but I still have it. This didn’t get a lot of hits so I must be in the minority here.

The belt transfers power to other accessories that have rotation and centrifugal resistance and resist rotation acceleration under their loadings from the engine's torque application they can't grip well enough for.
The belt slips. May need a new belt, the tensioner may be weak, or a pulley's grooves are now polished too smooth for good grip, from all the past slipping.

2500 miles on it. I noticed it at 1500 miles or so; it could have been doing it all along and it took me a bit to notice. I’ll post back what the shop finds.

Hey there! Can you please send me a DM with your VIN and dealer name/location so I can look into this cold start chirp concern for you? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Send a Private Message to Ford Motor Co". I'd be happy to see what I can do to assist!
