Default Brake packages

Looking to see if anyone has any feedback on this brake package.
I've got a 21 XLT leveled with larger tires as I am nearing the 40,000 mile mark I'm starting to notice some "feel" in my pedal.
This is the first of all my Fords to ever reach this milage on the original brakes.
If you have other better options, I'm all ears.

My experience across multiple brands is the rear need replacement before the front. That always seems weird to me given that the front does all the work. Could be different with the Ford as 25% plus of my miles involves towing.
Crossed 40k on original brakes. Perhaps that's due to the interstate miles I do.

When I need brakes I normally switch over to the Power Stop brand.

As for why the rear wears out before the front, traction control, ABS are the biggest cause for this. TC will apply one side or the other with out you ever feeling it.

Same here, rear always went out first, the rear gets worked when towing so it makes sense, rear brake rotors are larger than front on my last truck, don’t know about ford, haven’t quite get there yet. I no longer daily commute, mostly hour long trips so expecting factory brakes to last over 100,000 km

I agree with Mlarv , PowerStop brakes and rotors definitely get my vote.

I'm in Canada with a lot of hyw driving to get anywhere with limited city driving. Very seldom have to worry about brakes till around 200000 km or a 120000 miles.

Through some of my searching I found that there are 336 X 20 and 350 X 24 mm rotors, are the larger default with Ford's Max tow?

These Trucks use rear biased braking, a departure from the old way braking was usually designed.
The advantage of this is more straight-line stability, no front wheel lockup until needed, hill holding feature and Traction control actions.
The ABS system is used for these actions as well as in Wet / Snow driving mode, the ABS adds extra rear traction by detecting wheel spin.
This action applies light ABS braking to the wheel that breaks traction forcing the other wheel to pick up the traction it has at that moment.
It's all transparent most of the time.
Therefore, the rear Pads usually wear first.
Any pulsating felt in the Pedal is the front Discs and or the front Caliper/Pins/ Pads need attention.
On Rear Electric Parking Brakes service, be sure to take the system out of service before attempting any work. They are alive and can hurt you if they actuate.
I would recommend stock OEM Pads be used for replacement because of their known co-efficient of fraction that most fit the control features designed into the Truck.
Rear B pads with a bit more area really pull down in speeds below 40 mph >>cold<< braking.
Any other Pads are unknown as to how well they will work with the vehicle cold control actions.
These systems are not the old time!
Good luck.

I have a 21 also(lariat). 20" wheels I got 67k on my factory tires and went a tad more aggressive tire for replacement. Currently sitting at 85k miles on the factory brakes. I drive aggressive. truck is tunesd etc.(so heavy gas/breaking)
I had a 2012 and 2015 F150 platinum. Had to change the front rotors mult times due to pulsation. Very, Very happy with these factory brakes on the 21. (have max tow package) Brake dust is very minimal!! I usually also replace with power stop stuff when I need replacements but these factory ford pads have been great for me. will have to decide ford pads or power stop soon.,

My experience has been much like yours. In my 2015 XLT I had to replace brakes about every 75K or so. My OEM brakes were miserable, and my next replacements were PowerStop Z36 drilled and slotted rotors. Huge improvement.

My 2022 XLT has almost 69K on it, and my brakes have been doing well. I'm having it in for a PA state inspection this Friday. I don't think I'll need brakes yet. These OEM brakes were a huge improvement over the OEM brakes on my 2015. I won't feel the need to do aftermarket pads and rotors on this truck.
