Default Bed Cover Recommendations

I am looking to order a new F150 hopefully at the end of the year, finances permitting. I am seriously thinking about getting a tonneau cover. I am leaning towards a hard cover that folds or retracts vs. a soft cover. I am wondering what all you out there have for yours, how you like it, and if you think a factory one is a better deal than an aftermarket one?

I have the BakFlip F1, I think it is one of if not THE best folding cover. I've had a couple of other BakFlip covers that worked great but hailstorms beat them up pretty good...supposedly the F1 is pretty much hail-proof. You can get a color-matched tri-fold from Ford Accessories that looks pretty cool...

I installed a truxedo lowpro soft tonneau cover for cost effectiveness and ease of rolling up.

My wife made me get a tonneau so I bought a Truxedo Sentry CT hard roll up. It works well. Every tonneau is a compromise between reduced cargo space, weight, security, and price. The Sentry is priced midway bt soft and retractable; removes pretty easily to use the whole bed, fairly waterproof, sits flush, and can carry a stack of mattresses on top. Downsides, it's heavy (60lbs), squeaks a little, and can be popped open with a coat hanger. Good luck with your choice.

I went with this spendy version since my Gator tri-fold hard top still hasn't shown up. I have a Gator soft top that worked well on my SD.
Seriously, I was going to head out on vaca in July, but my Dad needed us home sooner so I couldn't wait any longer for the Gator to show up. So far, my Lowes Special Cover is working .

I had a Bak Flip Fibre Max. Didn't like it.....it leaked and the top faded quickly. Also, very heavy to open, especially when you get to the last section. I switched to a Re Trax Pro retractable. Not a single drop of water gets in and I can open it with one hand easily. Pricey, but worth it. Also comes with lifetime warranty.

On my 2016 I went with pretty much the cheapest hard tri-fold tonneau I could find which was the American Tonneau Hard Tri-fold. It wasn't the greatest but it was $200-600 less than many/most of the hard tri-folds on the market. While I was not super impressed with the quality from the beginning the cover did last 5 years and was sold with my 2016 last month. After 5 years the stitching was starting to go in a few places and every 6-9 months I would need to re-glue some of the weather stripping. However, up until last month the cover kept everything dry and secure and the vinyl on top held up fine. The thing did it's job. Also, the latches held up fine, there were no tracks to bend or break and it was simple to use and take off entirely if required.

Will I go with it again for my 2021? Yes, I will. For the $$ I will save I will gladly re-glue the weather stripping and if it tears up after a couple of years and I have to buy another one so be it.
