Default AMP Powersteps - I've given up

Really disappointed in these things. I had them installed on my 21 Lariat back in December and the dealer I purchased from has agreed to remove them and issued a refund (thank goodness) The darn things have a mind of their own even after replacing the control module. They work about 80% of the time but at least once a day (sometimes 3 or 4 times) they would not deploy when entering or existing the truck. An hour later they would work fine. They even deployed a few times while I was driving!

I really wanted to install a set on my 23' Tahoe but not now.

That's one of the reasons I'd never consider an electric one. I frequently hit the mud and have had it clogged a few times when I drove the Cheyenne. Never again. I have the factory non-power steps, perfectly happy with it.

I’ve had 3 different vehicles with Amp power running boards installed and I’ve never had any problems with them. I installed a remote on-off switch to disable them during temps below 30 degrees if it’s sleet like snow or rain to prevent them from freezing up and that happens with all power running boards, even factory ones. My wife is 5’3” and she loves them because they drop down farther and provide a wider step to get into the truck. They are also great for aiding people with mobility issues get up into my truck. I will never have a truck without them.

the permanent ones protect rocks flying to lower rocker panel etc.
also, I think they make sense on vehicles like range rover where a running board would look ugly, but the trucks look pretty damn good with running board.

Since they are controlled via the computer and you have already swapped the module once, maybe theres an issue with the truck.

Ive had them on 3 trucks in the snow, mud, off roading, camping, and so forth and they do just fine

Have installed Amp Steps on a 21 & 22 302a XLT F150's and may have an answer on this.

Amp supplies some very small and delicate posi loc wire taps to tie into the very small and delicate signal wires. If extra time and care is not taken a bad / intermittent connection may result when installing these taps.

On page 10 your looking at the 2 wires connecting to the black connector.

Personally took extra time and care to secure these small taps by tie wrapping the little excess wire supplied by AMP to the wire loom.

I'll look into that wire connection and make sure it's secure since I'm not scheduled to have them removed until next Tuesday. Thanks for the tip.

I will say that since they've replaced the control module, the steps have worked better. Before, they would stop working mid-day and would not work again until the next morning. Now, it's about once a day. I can enter the truck in the morning and exit when at my office (10 min commute) and everything is good. But some days, I'll leave for lunch and they will not deploy, but after that 10 minute drive to my house, they deploy on exit.

I think you nailed it, thanks! They eliminated the posi-locs and hardwired / heat shrinked the connection and they've worked perfectly for over 3 weeks now.
