Default Air filter

Curious what others are doing for general maintenance items like the air/cabin filters. I was shopping online last night for a replacement air filter for my other vehicle and the local shop had some options. Which I hate options because then I have to read up on them…..

one option is the standard fram paper filter or the shops name brand alternative. The other option is the K&N oil based reusable filter.

just wondering if it’s worth it or not?

Generally speaking, the oiled filters must be done perfectly to be of any value. Too little and it won't trap dirt. Too much oil and it is ingested mucking up sensors.

You're further ahead staying with a dry type of filter.

Not worth it. OEM, or the equivalent. IMHO.

The only non-paper engine air filter I'd consider would be a dry type, reusable synthetic filter. I don't know if they have one that matches the Ford filter though, and the cost typically requires you to keep your vehicle for >100k-150k mi to break even.
