Default AC malfunction

I have a 2021 Powerboost platinum 4 wheel drive. I live in TX where its hotter than Hades. I was driving back from Big Bend national park to Dallas where we live a few weeks ago in about 105 F heat and about 3/4 of the way in a 10hr drive the AC just stopped blowing cold air. The cabin heated up very fast and we had to pull off in a gas station after driving like that for a half an hour to let the kids get out from the heat. Turned the truck off long enough to get ice cream and when we turned it back on AC was fine the rest of the way. Anyone else have the AC just stop working until a stop/restart?

Yep, similar story. When the truck sat for a bit a pool of condensate water formed under it, so something had frozen up. Took it to the dealership, haven’t heard yet what they found. There’s another thread on here about AC problems that references TSB 22-2089 for the evaporator temperature sensor causing freezing up.

There are states not called Texas that get hot. FYI

I recommend filing a safety complaint with the NHTSA at https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index. They are on charge of investigating safety complaints and issuing safety recalls. If enough owners complain, the NHTSA is more likely to issue a recall and force Ford to fix this. The real safety issue isn't the temp control, although that is a huge inconvenience. The safety issue is that while the blower is malfunctioning, it cannot defog/defrost the windshield. I have had same issue with the AC and blower over last 14 months. 2 different dealerships and 4 visits totalling going on 4 weeks in the service department. Bottom line, service department cannot find error code and cannot duplicate so they will not fix. Likewise I called Ford corporate customer service, and they will not help without an error code or the problem duplicating in the service department. There is a TSB out by Ford 22-2089 for limited Vin numbers, so Ford is aware this is an issue and yet they still will not fix it. Everyone please file complaints to the NHTSA to force Ford into action.

Welcome to the club. A few people have reported what might be a permanent fix. Meanwhile, be ready to shut off the AC, keep the fan on, and wait 20 minutes for the evaporator to thaw. Then start the AC again.
