Default 4-Pin Adapter

I didn’t look a ton into it this evening when I picked up the new truck, but anyway to permanently keep the 7-pin-to-4-pin trailer light adapter installed? I don’t use 7-pin for my trailer and would prefer not to plug in an adapter every time that has the potential to be lost or stolen.

My wife's SUV does not have a 4-pin so I clipped soldered the 4 wires to a 7-pin trailer plug, then heat shrink tubed it to make it clean. It's one option. You can use your ford one if you only have one trailer, or buy an extra online. (this only would work if you don't have any 4pin vehicles left)

Well I just unplug the adapter and store it in the tray under the back seat. Why would you want to keep it installed?

I wouldn’t really, I would prefer there to be a pre-mounted 4-pin spot like prior years. But I’m assuming that always unplugging it is only option. No big deal.

It's permenent on the *trailer* cord for me, not the vehicle. It's just a small utility trailer without brakes or battery. So I did this like 7 years ago when we got her SUV and realized it doesn't have a 4pin. Both our vehicles have the 7 pin though. Like I said, just one option.

I was also surprised to find the new F150 didn't have the 4-Pin installed already. My other F150 had a 4 pin and 7 pin installed from the factory. I ended up leaving the adapter attached to the trailer like another member mentioned.

**NOTE: Be careful using the 4 Pin to 7 Pin Ford Adapter. When I plugged the adapter into the truck, the connection was so tight, the whole assembly started to come out of the truck when I pulled the adapter back out. May need to use some grease or something.

this is what I think I may lean to doing. It 99% of the time will be for a jet ski trailer, so it gets unplugged and plugged in a few times in a day of use (unplugged before trailer going into water). So I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose it but I think now it’ll be fine.

I do occasionally use a utility trailer from someone else so only hesitation in leaving on jet ski trailer. Also, I tried plugging my trailer into the adapter and it was so tight I couldn’t plug the harness into the adapter. I stopped to avoid breaking something and will mess with it another day when more time, but is it usually that right in the adapter?

You could just buy the 7 prong plug end and put it on your trailer.. they are really cheap and then you wouldn't have to worry about losing the adapter.

Put some dielectric grease on each individual connection. Throw the adapter in a freezer baggie and keep it under the back seat.
