Question 2022 Wireless Charging

Just picked up my 2022 Lariat Sport Crew 5.0 last week. Trying to use the wireless charging pad has been problematic.

The phone and screen on the truck will show the phone is charging but the phone will not charge showing lower battery percentage when removed from the charged than it did when placed on the pad. I have no problems with charging the phone wirelessly on any other devices. The phone will also get extremely hot sitting on the pad. I did remove the case from the phone. I have not tried any other phones. My phone is a Samsung S21.

I looked quickly through other threads and did not see any other mention on this on the forum. I am curios if others have seen this? Is this a common or known problem? Is there a fix available?

It's very likely the data and the energy required through Android Auto was higher than what the wireless pad could charge. That's why I stick with wired. I have Samsung S22 Ultra.

Do you still have this problem when you're not running Android Auto?

I've seen similar behavior. I have a S22 Ultra and if I'm using the phone for Waze/Spotify over Android Auto, it basically breaks even charging, takes a long time to gain any percentage and does get pretty warm. It just doesn't have the wattage to use the "fast wireless charging" the phone is capable of.

@Bigglesworth I have not tried without running Android auto. I will see if that makes a difference.

@Spamburger_Hamburger That is what I suspected, it is trying and that is what is generating the heat. I will try charging without Android Auto running and see how it does. I will likely just have to plug it in to charge. First World Problems at their best.

Android Auto is what is killing your battery as it's charging. I'm surprised at just how fast it will drain it when running wirelessly.

Hey there! I can look into your F-150’s wireless charging pad concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?

both of our samsung phones with otter box cases and NO ANDROID auto get extremely hot on the wireless charging pad.

they did the same thing in the 21 f250.
so we just use the 12v cord and go that way.

i am not sure if its samsung, otter box or what. but the heat concerned us.

This. I have the same behavior. The wireless pad sucks. I use the cord when I need to charge the phone. If not, I just leave it in the slot in the center console using AA wirelessly.

I have a 45W USB-C cig lighter plug for the phone. The PowerBoost with 7.2 kW does not have a cig lighter up front but there's one in the center console storage. It's made to have a couple wires sticking out through the door handle area, I plug the phone there and use wireless Android Auto. For some reason, USB-A charges too slowly so I use USB-C.

Try that and let me know.
