Question 2021 Powerboost Issues

I have a 2021 Platinum Powerboost with just over 10K miles that has been in shop at two different dealers for a total of over a month now since May 14th. I took it in for oil change and to have the under carriage recall and tow recall done 04/28/22. They were unable to complete the under carriage recall as they did not have the part. Then 2 weeks after the service I was out of town a couple hours away and the engine light came on and shortly after it would give red alert that onboard had failed and to pull over safely and unplug unnecessary items and reset and to see dealer as soon as possible. There was nothing plugged in. I happened to be close to a ford dealer in Bentonville, Ar. I had to stop and reset the pro power onboard 3 times just to get to the dealer a few miles away. When alert was happening, the power was reduced, and AC would not blow cold air and vehicle would jump and sputter at stops. I was able to get to the dealer and they had nothing to offer other than some kind of communication issue and advised if I could drive it for me to try and get it back home and to a dealer in hometown 2 hours away. After I let the vehicle sit for an hour or so, the alerts stopped, and the check engine light even went off for 20 minutes or more while driving. Then the truck gave red alert again and would not even start back up for 5-10 minutes and said find nearest service station. I made it back to that same dealer and advised that I couldn't make it back home. They had the truck for a week and went ahead and did the under carriage recall and updated Blue Cruise but unable to recreate the issue after they went through an 8-10 hour update through all systems and modules. They believed the updates and full reboot to have fixed the issue.

The truck seemed fine after and then June 7th it gave the red alert again with same error, (Alert: pull over safely and unplug unnecessary items and reset and to see dealer asap), I let the truck sit overnight and the alert went away until June 11th and it went haywire again, The Ford pass app shows as "Malfunction Indicator Lamp - Regulatory and The powertrain control system has detected an internal fault in control module and to have vehicle checked by authorized dealer as soon as possible."

I took it in to my local dealer and they still have the truck after over 3 weeks and offer no loaner or rental just they are looking for one for me but that is just the way it is. They did advise I need a new Battery Control Module and finally have the part as of last Wednesday and even though my service advisor had said it would be a 1 day fix once part was in, it has now been advised it will require a lot of garage space to fix as they have to pull apart the complete undercarriage to repair it and then put it back together, Due to the scope of work involved it will be a multi-day repair and will take up space that they currently do not have available and will not start it until next week some time and they are hopeful I will have it back Wednesday or Thursday. I am trying to be patient but not trusting anything they say and honestly fed up with it at this point.

I have owned nothing but Fords for many years and love this truck but thinking I made a huge mistake here going with the Powerboost, Any advice on if I can escalate this directly with Ford? The dealer doesn't seem to really care and just throws out the "with the Hybrid engine and Battery etc, and dealing with Pandemic stuff excuses that it is what it is. I probably shouldn't have bought a 1st Gen Hybrid." over and over again. To make matters worse I have a cross country trip I've had planned and leaving in 10 days and my truck, according to the dealer, will be fixed by then, but I am now nervous about even attempting a long drive in it at this point.

Has anyone gone through similar issues with the Powerboost and any thoughts on making a cross country trip so soon after the issues I have had with it? And also, any advice on if I can or even should escalate directly with Ford and how?

I know long post. Sorry but I've never had issues like this before. I appreciate any feedback or advice.

Thank You.

Sorry to hear for your troubles. It looks like Platinum Powerboosts tend to be more problematic (I have one too!). My issue was a faulty auxiliary battery insulator. Probably not going to help, but I would check main 12V battery voltage when the truck goes rogue again.

P.S. Our trucks are what I call "COVID babies" - subpar assembly using subpar components/component replacements.

I appreciate the response and yes COVD Babies, LOL!!

I have had nothing but F250 Powerstrokes for so long but just wasn't needed anymore and so wanted the top 1500 I could find and fell in love with the truck and I should have known better. I've never had issues like this on any truck and on a brand new $70K+ vehicle it is just maddening. The dealer did call this evening and advised it has been moved in and gas tank removed along with much of the undercarriage and will be day to day but will let me know as they hear more and get a better idea of when ir will be done.

Now I am going to be driving several thousand miles on a truck I am hoping is fixed but also just had the undercarriage taken apart and put back together and just have to hope all the work is done right, I have zero confidence in the truck for the trip but am hoping all goes well. I would trade it back in tomorrow if I could but had the 0% financing and would have no chance at that now, Truck was perfect until the 2nd oil change and recall was done.

My 21 was acting wonkey.. was putting some in channel window covers and of course rolled the windows up and down to seat.. the truck was on but the engine only started a few times.. The next morning i went to start up la truck warring about the battery , take to shop ect.. at stop light the engine would not shut off. So my solution was to install the Odyssey Battery that was new and I had just finished conditioning .. Problem solved.. I tried to condition the agm battery that came with the truck to no avail.. my guess is that with all the production delays the ford battery was sitting around for many months,, But a heavy load on a loaded Powerboost and Bingo crap city..To date no more problems,, this happened around august last year,,

Thanks for the response. Your truck sounds very similar to mine. I went carbonized grey as well and leveled and put on some Fuel Rebels on 34s. I am not sure I could have the time or skill needed to do any of the above with the battery. The dealer never called today at all and finally I was able to get them to answer late this evening and they are hoping it is done tomorrow but they will let me know again, lol. This makes 24 days in the shop there and a total of 31 in the last 2 months. Worst experience ever for me with a vehicle. If I have it back, I will take it for a good test drive this weekend.
