Default 2.7 powerboost

Do you think ford will make a 2.7 power boost I think that would be the ultimate truck and best fuel economy in the world of high fuel prices we live in. Say 360 HP and about 480 ft of torque getting 28-30+ miles per gallon what’s your thoughts?

I hope so. With the new mileage rules in the coming years, it's going to be tough to meet them if it's not electric or hybrid.

I'd love a PHEV 2.7L with the 26 gallon tank and a larger battery and motor. Or even a PHEV 3.3L.

Extremely doubtful given the market.

I think a 3.5 with cylinder deactivation would be better.

I think they might start moving the entire EcoBoost line to a hybrid style like the PowerBoost. The packaging of the PowerBoost components eliminates most of the reason you wouldn't do it to begin with, and the intense investment in battery and motor tech is going to drive down the prices over the next few years. It would to a point make sense to add the battery and motor to all EBs. The engine line name already has Eco in it, and Ford can use PowerBoost for the top level, more performance oriented variants. While the PowerBoost does get great mileage (we just got back from a lot of city driving and got 27 MPG, never came close to that with the 2.7L EBs), it's clear that Ford's intent was power over eco, eco was just a nice side effect. So they already opened up the chance to do this.

As part of the next generation plug in hybrid version, yes.

Given the current mania to kill internal combustion engines, this is a given that all remaining ICE will be hybrid because whatever manufacturers think, they don't want to be attacked on social media. Plus they know it's only a matter of time that some political edict comes down. So a hybrid is the least disruptive to their lineups. It's also the most reasonable cost-wise for consumers.

I think we need to get to the other side of the massive parts, chip, semi conductor, logistics shortages before expanding options and making parts/JIT/logistics more complex.

So, maybe not for a bit
