I have a 2007 f150 that shows it having a 4.6L engine. When I change oil and filter I put in 6 guarts of oil , and it shows that I'm still a quart low. Can anybody tell me what is going on with this?

 

Assuming your dipstick tube isn't broken or half pulled out. My buddies 4.6 took 6.5 to get to the top of the marks. 6 gets it exactly to the middle of the ranges.

 

That is what mine is taking 6.5 guarts. Oh well even the manual that came with the truck says 6 quarts. What's up? lol

 

Ford considers anything in the cross hatch as full. You don't have to fill it to the top of the cross hatch for it to be considered full. That extra half quart is you bringing it to the max level most likely. Nothing wrong with that but that is where the extra oil comes in.

 

An oil cooler in the system would also add oil. If you have the tow package for instance, you might have another half or whole quart in that.
