Whipple/Roush 5.0 Owners: 3.31 vs. 3.55 (vs. 3.73)? RWD vs. 4WD?

Thank you for all of the responses so far. You've given me a lot to consider, and the technical arguments and personal real-world experiences in each camp make for an interesting debate. The comments in particular about how much of a handful 2WD-only trucks are with this much power is really making me pause and look at the 4WD option more seriously (even if I may only use it occasionally). My Lightnings were always a lot of fun, but the party was over too soon the moment the rear end would step out or the power overwhelmed the chassis. Sounds like 4WD and some traction bars may be in my future. But I don't like the lifted look of the stock 4x4 suspension so I'll be immediately looking to make it look more like the RWD (is it just a matter or removing 4x4 blocks like the old days? different shocks too?) or give it a modest lowering.

Thanks for confirming this can be done. Not looking to ride on air or flip axles, etc. but I remember not liking the way my Lightning drove when it just had FRPP/Ground Force front springs and rear drop shackles--the Roush Racing front and rear suspension kit that I installed later was perfect though. I'll have to research my options on this generation F150 more carefully.

You may be happy with a tune and an intake?
Just an thought... a 5.0 with an intake and a tune should give you as much entertainment as the lightning and more than the 6.2, with the right axles gears and 10 speed of course.
Close to 480cHP is attainable without much compromise to the truck
600+ horsepower and 4wd puts you you in the 11’s easily, and that’s rather elite territory. We have a huge car scene where I live, and believe me, 11’s with 4wd launch dominates 99% or stoplight encounters. I love the feeling of a full boost launch, so there’s that too.

Ford performance sells a 4wd drop kit that will take the front to 2wd height and the rear down to level.
