Updating the PCM dealership or Tuner .... ?

So I picked up a 05 5.4 and was thinking of taking it to the dealer to see if there is any PCM updates available, if I go with a Edge tuner would this defeat the whole purpose of spending the $100 or whatever at the Dealership if there even is a PCM update available?
