Supercharger question
I am going to go with a whipple 2.9 install. The question I have is should I be replacing the oil pump gears also? I have heard that they are a weak point and that there are some billet options out there that one should go with if they are putting in the supercharger?
Is this true?
If so, what other mods should be done as part of the blower install?
Any feedback appreciated....

According to whipple you don't need to do anything else. They did recommend adding the cooling fans to the intercooler.

I have a roush stage 2 supercharger and when I installed it I also installed billet oil pump gears and billet crank sprocket. I didn't want to find out the hard way later down the road that I should have replaced them. That's the problem with this upgrade is you'll never know if it would of been worth it until it's too late. From what I've heard though if you're not going crazy hp and bangin the rev limiter you should be fine and there are plenty of trucks not running them. I like the peace of mind though.

It's fairly accepted that the opg failures are caused by hp and rpm. I believe ford even said that. However, the truck power levels and shift points are significantly lower than the gt, making ours directionally safer. I'm only aware of one whippled mustang that failed the opg on the whipple kit/whipple tune.

So here is the response I got from Whipple today.....
"A lot of customers change the oil pump gears to heavier duty gears from Triangle Speed, Livernois, Est. as insurance. It is not a necessity but it is good insurance."

Remember, the whipple can be basic for "mild" and optioned out to be "wild". Their basic kit wouldn't need anything beefed up but as you increased HP, of course beefing up would start to come into play.As stated, some find it worth the insurance.

I have heard a lot of talk about OPGs on the F150 but I don't recall a failure on the trucks. Let me know if you know of someone who has had a failure on the F150.
