Default Which Spring summer fall tires for whipple 4x4

Occasional towing. Street driving. Occasional light off road.

I'm thinking

1. Pirelli SCORPION ZERO ASIMMETRICO - SIZE: 305/40ZR22
Pirelli

Vs

2. Toyo Proxes ST lll 305/40/22
Toyo Toyo

Thoughts?

You link is to the Toyo Proxes S/T...the first generation S/T tire. The S/T III is a much newer tire design then the original S/T. In that size you can also consider the Yokohama Parada Spec-X and the General Grabber UHP. I'd think traction will be pretty similar across the board, and the lightest tire would be the Yokohama, though again weights are pretty similar. I personally have the Grabber UHP's in 295/50/20 and have no real complaints, they offer uprising levels of grip in the dry and weight and have a comfortable ride. The Pirelli's are also a nice tire, though substantially more expensive then the others.

None of the tires will hook up in two wheel drive with a supercharged truck from a dig, but all of them should hook in 4x4. In my Roush truck I'll pull sub 1.8 second 60ft's all day long on the street in 4x4 with the Grabber's and I imagine the others would offer similar performance.

I also have General UHP in 295/50/20 I love the tires compared to the stock hanook. In a 305/40/22 they weight around 37-38lbs which is one of the lightest tires in that size.

I had a set of V-speed rated Hankook Ventus on my 475 hp stalled and cammed Magnacharged 2002 Z71 Avalanche and really liked them. They were smooth and had good traction, so you could maybe look at them as well. I didn't check to see if they are available in the size you want.

I just bought a set General Grabber UHP 305/45/22 for summer and they look really nice and are very reasonable priced. Discount Tire had a special on Ebay, a set for $540+tax with free shipping. The normal price is about $600 which isn't too bad.

I'll weight one when I get home, if I recall Tire Rack says they weigh 45lb, little heavy but WAY less than my KO2 ATs that weigh 61lb.

Well they weighted in at almost exactly what TireRacks specs say 45-46lb, Still not bad...It's going tough to find a tire that size under 40, the lowest I've seen is the Hankook Ventus ST RH06 at 42lb.

The Yokohama Parada Spec-X are one of the lightest tires in that size, 38lbs according to Tire Rack. But I'll stick to my General Grabber's, I love these tires and they do an admirable job grappling with 600whp+.

Ok...My bad...You guys are talking 305/40/22 and are 31.6" tall. The ones I bought are 305/45/22 they are almost 33" (32.8") tall, that why the weight is different.. I wanted to fill out the wheel well as much as I can without going nuts like I did on the 35" K02s.

Mike.
