PCM replacement question
Apologies up front if this is just a seriously stupid question.
I keep having an error code for the oil pressure sensor. Dealer has replaced the sensor...still have the code. Dealer replaced the pigtail...still have the code. Dealer has traced all the way back to PCM and looking for broken wire(s), shorts, etc and is now suggesting that PCM should be replaced. I could ignore it but it frequently goes into limp mode when it can't read oil pressure so I think it should be fixed somehow. I did have a tune on it when the code/low oil pressure warning popped up but it was still there after reverting back to stock. Tune was on for a few months so I don't think it was tune related if indeed it has failed.
The question I have is related to replacing the PCM. I have the tunes on my device (HPTuners RTD+) so is it possible to purchase my own new PCM, install it and then program it myself? Or is there something that the dealer has to do specifically prior to being able to change it with aftermarket tunes? Strategy codes may play into it, too? This may not result in savings and it so, feel free to say so. Just wondering as I've already paid quite a bit for them to chase it down and I don't think they actually know what's wrong.

Regarding the oil pressure issue, has the dealer measured the oil pressure directly from the sensor to rule out a mechanical problem?

Thanks. That’s what I needed to know.
Yes, they put a gauge on it and measured pressure both before and during the oil pressure warning. Oil pressure was fine so it is not mechanical. My guess was the replacement sensor could have been bad (unlikely) or they may be correct about the PCM.
Thanks again.
