Limp Mode
Truck went into limp mode this past weekend while towing a relatively light trailer/load.
Once I shut the truck off and restarted it, it was fine and has been since but I also haven’t been pulling a trailer since then. I was cruising with the cruise control on at about 60mph in Tow/Haul mode when it happened, nothing that should have been stressful on the motor.
Anyone ever have a temporary “glitch” happen with their tune files? I was on my way home from a 100+ mile hunting trip and it ran great until that instance.
I am running a 91 Perf/Tow tune but won’t list the tuner yet. It is a popular one on here.
Anyways, the tuner has been great and sent me a v2 tune to install but I haven’t yet. I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue, what the usual causes are, etc. I need to attempt to datalog the issue but am afraid it will not re-occur or am afraid that it will. Any tips on how to datalog to get the best/useable data?
My plan was to hook the trailer back up and run that same stretch of highway while data logging, once with the current tune and then once with the v2 tune. Thoughts?

Think so? You may be right but for some reason I suspect an overboost or something. The tune likes to use boost to maintain speed instead of downshifting when hills are encountered.
My truck is almost brand new, it only has 24,000 miles on it and has had all regular services and maintenance performed religiously (which isn’t much at 24k).
What kind of truck glitch could it be? The tuner suggested cleaning both MAP sensors and also commented that at times, the build up in the inter cooler can break free, get ingested and trigger the failsafe as well.

On my 2016 5.0 with a custom tune and supercharger, the cylinder head temperature sensor went bad for absolutely no reason and put me into limp home mode with an overheat warning. I was simply driving down the highway on a 40 degree F day, and I had just started the truck 5 minutes prior so it wasn't even warmed up. The issue was persistent and intermittent, and clearing codes or even allowing the truck to cool did not resolve the issue. I replaced the sensor and the issue hasn't came back. I believe this same sensor is used in all F150's and numerous other Ford vehicles. Left me stranded....$12 part.
I'm not saying this is your cause, but I'd investigate any sensor that is capable of putting the vehicle in limp home mode, and check for any trouble codes. Mine was throwing codes indicating an overheat and codes indicating the CHT sensor was out of voltage range, which told me immediately the sensor had gone bad.
Moral of the story, is trucks glitch out all the time for any number of reasons.
