Hellion TT or Whipple

Okay so I have been on the fence about just running NA for a few years and progressing from tune and exhaust to ported intake manifold; long tube headers; intake; throttle body and a set of good intake cams. Part of the fun is watching and feeling first hand the progression of the build and enjoying it along the way. But after taking a look from the financial side I will not see the horsepower per dollar increase of going forced induction.

So here is my dilemma. I will continue to use this truck as a daily driver. I will never run anything more than E85 or 93 octane.

On the stock motor can I see more benefits running Hellion's Twin Turbo kit on E85 and 93. I understand i will have to upgrade the fuel system too. If so what size turbos would be the best to run on E85 and 93?
I know there is room to grow with the TT kit if so what would i need to do to the engine to handle xtra power or shall i say more boost on E85? Pistons; rods; head studs, rod main bearings; cams; etc. I just don't know if its beneficial on E85 or 93 octane for a daily driven truck.

Or is it just best that i do a Whipple 2.9 with long tube headers and a tune on 93 from Whipple or a custom tune on E85.

Anyone with experience and advice please feel free to chime in.

My budget is 15k But i don't want to spend 4k more for a Hellion kit only to see only minor improvements in horsepower and torque.

I have a feeling I am going to have to register on the SVT forums to get the information and advice I am looking for here. LOL

Or try a little patience

Not many hellion f150’s around, non on this site, and I haven’t seen one on SVT either

It’s Saturday and you’re pissy because you didn’t get an answer to a 20 part question in 33 minutes?

The Whipple will be all you'll need or want on a daily driver and with a fuel system, long tubes, and E85 can make over 700whp. You're budget isn't big enough to take advantage of the TT kit, as you'll want a built motor, complete fuel system, converter, trans, driveshaft, and other suspension work to support the 1000hp the TT kit can make. I don't see the point of the TT kit at power levels under 700, where a PD blower like the Whipple or a TVS will beat it on driveability. There is a reason you don't see a lot of TT kits running around, as its really a specific tool for a specific job, and daily driving isn't one of them.

I think the bottom line is this, if you have to ask the question then the TT kit is not for you.

Maybe consider...

Ported manifold - $300ish
Intake cams -$1,000ish
LT headers - $1,200ish
87 mm tb from gt350 - $300ish
150 shot nitrous with full setup - $1,000

$3,800 out the door, use the other $11,200 to pay the truck or other debt down if applicable. If not, go put it on black at the casino and cross your fingers!

I’m sure the hellion kit will be cool.

As far as I know it’s has not been released for sale.

The Whipple stage 2 when it probably goes on sale in a couple month on black Friday will be $7000 delivered to your door. If you're doing the install yourself, the only other cost is coolant and a few tools to make the install easier, figure $500 max for that. So you will have only used up 1/2 your budget and can start adding on enhancements.

I’ve done nitrous once, about 4 turbo setups, and probably 10 superchargers. Turbos are cool and hp per psi boost, they beat supercharging hands down. Exhaust is just thermodynamically more efficient to drive the compressor. That said, the turbo setups are low production volume kits that will never be as reliable as a good supercharger kit. I would never add a turbo to a daily driver.

Regarding power goals, the regular stock whipple supercharger has been proven up to almost 1000 rwhp on mustangs. And, on a 2015-7 5.0, I wouldn’t bother going into the bottom end unless you plan to upgrade the block. In the mustang world, the weak point of the 15-17 was the cylinder bore that would split at around 850 rwhp. The 2018’s appear to have addressed this with a stiffening rib.

One of the big things that sold me on the Whipple kit was the reliability for a daily driver. I see first hand all the Shelby F150s that Tuscany cranks out daily and know it's exactly the same kit less the Shelby badges.

Is it the fastest setup?...No but, it pretty darn impressive and 100% usable as a daily driver.
