Default Forged for Boost

Going to try this thread over here. Recently bought a 2014 FX4 screw with 45k that’s had a Roush stage 2 since it was new. Wanting to do a tune, but I feel I need to add some toys to the motor. At least an oil pump. Maybe rod/Pistons. Any thoughts? I’m doing this mostly because I want a tune.

Starting to wonder if if I should’ve gone with a lighter truck, but I can put $10k into this truck and be at about what an equal 15-17 would have cost me without the blower.

I am totally new to this forum and new to owning a truck. I am coming from owning a Civic Si and an Acura TL...I now own a 2018 F150 and I have been researching what to do to it. From my understanding ( correct me if I am wrong ) but anything you want to do your truck is OK until you get a tune. Supposedly a tune brings out the best of everything and can tie it all together. So I would say get a tune and get it right and then add what you want and revise the tune ( once again, correct me if I am wrong! ) My truck is bone stock but after doing a ton of research I decided on getting a tuner from Unleashed and a drop in air filter. I have heard nothing but good things about Unleashed so I was sold from the begninning ( plus researching for 2 months ) . You also stated you bought a '14 FX4...me being new to the truck world I don't know if there is a specific engine that goes with that model but my main selling point when I bought mine was knowing that I can gain a lot and have some fun from the 2.7 twin turbo.

Roush stage 2 comes with a roush tune, but it's a weak one. I've seen some dyno in the low 400's at the wheels. You can get a tune and raise the boost and experience gains of 100 hp or more. As for engine internals, I wouldn't bother. Ford built these 5.0's extremely stout:

Agreed. Maybe consider oil pump gears but maybe not even those if you don't plan on revving out any higher with cams and/or a boss intake.

yeah.....the coyote, especially newer ones, are ridiculously stout in stock form. Impressively so.

Get a good experienced tuner to do a dyno tune and street tune and be amazed at the gains.

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t know if the F150 coyote was weaker than the mustang. Also, I know that 45k miles with boost probably plays a toll on those parts.

I think the 2018 with the same options would probably keep up with my truck, sadly.

Im strongly considering pump gears. Would probably upgrade to the mustang pump at the same time.

The mustang and the truck have the same pump, and even the mustang rarely fails at much higher power and rpm levels. I would challenge you to find just one example of a boosted f-150 5.0 that has failed with a basic supercharger kit and tune.

I was put under the impression that the F150 has a smaller pump than the Mustang. At least that's what I'm being told when looking at pump gears. I did see a 11-14 F150 that failed at around 50k with only 510rwhp. I don't remember where I read that though. I just know the Mustang world says the pump gears are the first thing to go.

My plans are a tune from either 5star or VMP, and headers. Not a whole lot more power, but enough to make a difference.

My mistake....the 2015-17 f-150 got the mustang and boss 302 oil pump.

No worries. It sounds like the 15-17 truck motors are a lot more stout that the 11-14. Trying to decide how confident I am in the one I have.
