My opinion FWIW
My last truck was a 12 F150 3.5EB SC FX2 with livernois 93 tune. Even using the elec locker street traction was always an issue. Brake boosting was always eventful.
Current truck is a 17 FX4 as in sig with MPT 93 tune. Using 4A or 4H I can brake boost all I want and just go, uneventful.
forgot to go 4A once on a launch and 2WD sucked.....spun and shifted into second so quick it actually downshifted back into 1st....eventful.

As for the OP's question, 4wd for sure! The most fun I have with my truck is launching it in 4hi. If it was a 2wd truck it would do nothing but spin, and that's with the best street truck tires I can get. Not to mention 4wd gives me some versatility if the pavement ends or if the weather gets bad, and 4wd trucks hold their value better in my neck of the woods. But for a purpose built drag truck with proper tires, 2wd will likely be faster as there is less overall weight and less parasitic drag.

That is my conundrum...
Yes, I got spoiled with my Z06 because it just hooked and went, but I don't think the truck would be the same.
Is yours an EB or 5.0? Built?

I would be careful brake boost launching in 4A, as I'd be concerned about excessive clutch slippage until full lockup occurred. The auto transfer cases use clutches to engage 4wd, and those clutches are not very big. I'd want them fully locked up before romping on it. Will that impact the life? I don't know, but it would make me feel better at least.

I prefer my 2wd’s. The reality is I don’t race at every red light...or any red light for that matter. If I do catch the occasional contest of speed it’s from a 60-80 roll, there’s no snow in south Texas and I hate mud so 4wd is just extra weight and things to break for me.
With good tires, good shocks and traction bars I can plant the tires from a 20 roll but even that’s a rare occasion. The last time was against a C7 Stingray and by the shift into 3rd I was gone and he was scratching his head. I guess I just don’t care enough about drag racing anymore to buy a 4wd just for the rare occasions I’d use it...and I spent 10 years traveling the country with professional Pro Mod team so I actually used to love racing.
