Default Easiest tuner

So...I'm illiterate when it comes to tuners and stuff. A long long time ago, I had an Edge on my 06 F150 and actually had it sent in to be transformed into a "gryphon" with custom tunes and all that, went through all the motions of data logging and what not. While I admit, it pepped things up quite a bit...it was a lot of work. Fast forward to a few years ago, I had a diablo on my Ram, which was great but I eventually took it off because my MPG dropped from 17 down to 14.

So now I have a 2017 3.5 Eco, I don't like the shifting and its been at Ford 3 times. I'm thinking about getting a tuner but I don't want to mess with custom tunes, data logging, and all that. I also dont have a PC. So what id like is a tuner that will pep the shifting up a little and is really easy to use. Thoughts? I'm not looking to race, just looking for better shifting and maybe a tad bit more power.

From what ive read (on here and im on 5 stars facebook page) 5 star or most any custom tuners want you to do data logging and all that to adjust the tunes accordingly...

I have been looking at 5 Star for a few months, and like what I see and read.
However, for the cost, I think I'de be better off driving there and getting a dyno tune, vs the cost of the handheld tuner and maps.
I was looking at SuperChips too, for half the cost.
My warranty is the only thing stopping me from driving to 5*, and not wanting to pay another grand for their warranty. Not that it isn't worth it, I just personally can't justify a couple grand+ on a want right now.

The logging is the sticking point for me.

All across the internet I see people ripping up to like 120 mph in their trucks. If I do that in my area, I'll get arrested. So I'd live with either a canned tune or find a place that will be able to dyno it. I guess a dyno still isn't the same as logging though.

I use 5 star and haven't logged. They've done a million of them so even if it isn't perfect without a log it's still a massive improvement.

Most any busy competent tuner will have a good base file for a stock truck, which will benefit little from extra logging. Logging comes into play on vehicles that are not stock. Sure, logging can take into account local fuel quality, but so can a knock sensor.
There should be no reason why 5 Star should need to log a stock vehicle, not when they have already tuned thousands of them.

If you just want a canned tune, then buy an SCT device and load the base tunes from the device. Those tunes are designed to load an go, with no logging required. They are conservative enough to not cause any problems.

I have yet to get around to data logging. The first version was a major improvement in the shifting behavior. I do have V2 as they made some tweaks in trans shifting lockout based on my request, but still need to get it loaded up.

FWIW, I haven't done any datalogging yet on my 5star tunes, though I could.
