Default Describe your perfect “weekend” truck

Looking to maybe get a RCSB or an extended cab with the sole purpose of boosting it and using it as a 3rd vehicle. Will get taken to the track occasionally, but will mostly just a “weekend” car.

What options would you you say are a must have when looking used? Let’s say 10.5 was my goal, is that even possible on a stock block or is that getting into major engine build territory? Could I push 750whp on a stock block for a while, or is that near the limit of the 5.0?

Why do most go Whipple/Roush versus turbo? I think turbos sound better and (all else being equal) usually hit higher peak numbers. Is it just convience since Whipple has basically turned a SC into a bolt on upgrade (meaning they even supply a pretty tune with the kit)?

Is 4x4 a must to put the power down?

Are guys always seeking out 3.55 rears for 2wd set ups, or is that just for the 6 speed and not the 10 speed?

Would lowering the truck (not slamming, maybe a 2/4 drop) change anything from the above?

I can tell you now, your rear gear won't matter for long. HP Tuners is pretty close to adding a trans brake feature on 10R80 equipped vehicles. That gear ratio ain't gonna matter so much when you can launch with that haha.

Perfect weekend truck?
Reg cab 4x4 outfitted with Raptor front suspension arms and 4A case, and frame shortened to take a 5.5' bed. Raptor style flares all around. Lowered and fit with the widest rubber I can stuff under it. Pump the motor up to about 800rwhp and of course a full suspension rework for handling and Torsen front and rear. Would be oh so much fun at an auto cross or track day.

My ideal weekend ride would be a clean low mileage early 2000's lightning or a 1991 GMC Syclone. Also clean/low mileage. Both would be modded but look stock but be equipped with Drag Radials year round in case I needed to swing to the track.

My ideal weekend truck is in my driveway. It’s also my ideal weekday truck. Low, handles good, lots of power...it’s the best of everything I need. A fun commuter but I can load up the family or friends and hit the road for a weekend trip as well.
I don’t want or need anything else.

Who would have thought my car would have a bigger motor then my truck? 3.5TT in the truck, 5.slo in the car haha. The mustang guys have been using the f150 intake manifold to gain midrange torque with boost. The 3.5TT with just a few bolt ons and tune would put you in the 11's. Mustang guys with S/C 5.0 are in the 9's....there is no replacement for displacement so go 5.0 RCSB and build from there with bolt ons like Headers and exhaust and then follow up with boost.....

LOL, from seeing all of your previous builds this will last until you get tired of it and the itch starts back up.

if it had to be a truck, and I wasn't towing the boat or camper with it...…..

rcsb 3.5eb 4x4. Upgraded turbos, intercooler, e85, 4" exhaust, lowered a couple inches/levelled, ~600-700hp, That would be fun.
Maybe air suspension to raise for extra clearance if I ever wanted to play off road.
