BBK Throttle body?
Truck is a 2015 Eco 3.5. Throttle body crapped out on me, ford wants $578 for parts, labor, diagnostic fee. Plus 2 year warranty. Is it worth buying the same stock one, or just getting the 73mm BBK that claims 12 more horsepower better throttle response for $448 and just installing it myself. Or just do the economical option order the ford parts, install myself save the cash, and sacrifice the warranty?
I was going into limp mode with NO codes on my ‘13 3.5EB. I suspected the TB was going south so I replaced it, problem solved! I went with the larger bore BBK to enhance my tune and aftermarket intake. Not really sure I feel any more power but it makes a little more “fun noise”! It’s a very easy swap. Plenty of You Tube videos to view. The truck has to learn the new TB. Disconnect the neg batt cable before you start the job, reconnect when done, start the truck and let It idle for 15 min.
Hey guys… kind of a younger hobby mechanic so my knowledge in these things isn’t that extensive. Built a bronco for my high school ride, but all the computer systems just don’t make sense to me.
Anyway, I purchased a 2015 f150 from a used dealer. 101,000 on it. After probably 5 months or so, my truck threw the glorious p2112 code and the beautiful orange wrench flashed on my screen. So I do the logical thing and swap my throttle body. Cleared the code and did a relearn, worked like a charm! For about 4 months maybe? Now, I only Use this pickup for work really, and I know That a couple thousand miles doesn’t dictate the need for a new throttle body. So, I went The long way round, tried to replace everything I could Think of before the throttle body again.
I proceeded to replace my PCV valve, as I saw A lot of blow by oil in my throttle body intake… I replaced The air sensor on top of my motor (MAF?)… and put a new air filter in it I think Anyway, I couldn't Think of much else and could not get the code to go away, so I swapped my throttle body again. It didn’t work! So I bought a SCT live wire and hoped maybe if I tuned It the throttle body would re learn? Didn’t end up doing anything so I did A kam reset (it was an option after the tune installed, don’t really know what it is) but it worked!
I drove my truck for maybe 3 months. Then it happened again, but I was Running it on a factory tune, as it had thrown the code prior while pulling a trailer! Power off on the interstate… stupid, I reset it to factory, and then it worked a few more weeks… so, this time… I get BBK 73mm, install it and get a code for a leak between the throttle body and intake. As well as the p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed. So I decide To take it to the shop.
they tell me it’s the throttle body, yet I explained Many many times it wasn’t as it had about 120 seconds of idle time. They said I had To replace the throttle body with a ford one but wouldn’t use one of the 3 i have sitting at home. I looked Everywhere before going to them because I knew This was how it would be, but I had No options(no shops in town have the diagnostic besides ford) so here we are $750 to the dealership, after trying to convince them to look somewhere else, but it worked after they swapped it… so, I was Happy! drove for about 6 months this time. Now we’re looking at the same scenario. But I dont Want to take it to the dealership…
a common factor that I have Noticed is my throttle body intake always had oil on it. So I bought A catch can, got it installed yesterday, now I’m trying to use my BBK 73 mm that I spent 500 dollars on, but it starts up, revs to 3000 rpm, then sputters and gives the p2112 code again. Is there a relearn process for when someone installs one of these? If anyone has found a solution to the ETB problem ford has, please let me know! Thank you all in advance
