Thank you Rick,
That is great information. Sorry to be so ignorant on this subject but can you tell if they are bad by looking at them?

If you are in reverse, you can use the button to turn them OFF, if for some reason you don't wan them beeping.

Seems pretty clear to me.
That’s not how it works...

If the indicator light illuminates when the RSS is not turned off, it may indicate a failure in the RSS. The RSS will remain off until either the RSS control is pushed again or the ignition switch is recycled. Keep the RSS sensors (located on the rear bumper/fascia) free
from snow, ice and large accumulations of dirt (do not clean the sensors with sharp objects). If the sensors are covered, it will affect the accuracy of the RSS.
If your vehicle sustains damage to the rear bumper/fascia, leaving
it misaligned or bent, the sensing zone may be altered causing
inaccurate measurement of obstacles or false alarms.

To me that clearly says you have a failure. If all your sensors are clean, then see if you can unplug one at a time to see which one has failed.
Is the from 04-08 manual ?

Turn your key to run but don’t start your truck.. mash e-brake really good..put shifter in reverse.. go to the back of your truck and listen to each one of your sensors (4) the good ones will be making a clicking noise.

I used to hang an LED illuminated Christmas wreath on my 250 every December. I bought a 17 Explorer and thought I'd continue the tradition . . . until I realized I was covering two of the sensors on the front end with the wreath . . .

You don't have anything hanging on the back of the truck, do you?

This is great information because I'm in the same boat as the OP. Mine has be inoperative (light illuminated) for a few weeks now. I'm going to try this.

Question @techrep- if the “off” light is always illuminated, doesn’t it stand to reason then that the power to the system is off? In trying to diagnose this then, how do you recommend activating the sensors to listen for the “clicking”?

I believe they still make noise.. I could be wrong.. it may take 2 people ..one to mash the button and one to listen. This is how it was explained to me. I had a bad sensor and the system showed off.. it was fixed under warranty. So I did not personally do this.

I confirmed that even “Off”, the sensors work and click. I found the fault my sensor and will be replacing it.
