Question What is this part??

Hi all, new to this forum! I'll get right to it. I have acquired a 2000 F150 5.4L 4WD automatic trans 4R70W. The short version is I took it for a short trip to town and back. There was some vibration up and down shifting, and results of my query online suggested trans fluid and filter likely needing changed. Got the supplies/parts, removed the pan and filter. When I removed the filter, however, this came out as well....

It was on the top side of the filter and I have no idea where it came from. It does fit very loosely in the top port of the filter but there's nothing for the shaft to go into... that I can see. There is no indication on the shaft that it broke off of anything. I have looked at parts diagrams after parts diagrams, rebuild kits, etc, et al..... it is not shown anywhere. I'm a former Ranger Station member so I know there are some savvy gurus about. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

@ laterongc Preciate the info!! Having worked for Ford, now retired, I can see that being the case. I've seen some pretty odd stuff from the engineers over the years but, strange that they would put an obscure part in the trans pan... just to trip up the "do-it-yourselfer" lol. Thanks again!!

It got pushed into the pan when the dipstick tube was installed.
