Default Tricky Ignition

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 1991 F150, 5.0 V8, 4X2, all stock. Odometer reads 63,234, and honestly it looks like 63k and not 163k. Great truck. I have one problem with it though:

When I go to start the truck I have to turn the key to ON for 10 seconds and then start or it will not activate the starter, it simply does nothing. This would not bother me except that even this process only works 1/10 times or less. Its very frustrating to say the least.
When the ignition does activate the starter the engine starts in 1-2 cranks.

Any thoughts? I searched the forums and didn't find a similar problem. New ignition? electrical issue?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nate.

It sounds like your fuel pump is showing its age. How does it run once you start it? You may want to chang the fuel filter. It may never have been done. My daughters fuel pump when because of the excess high pressure. This is the problem sometimes with used vehicles-what maintenace was done, if any? Most vehicles also will not start if there is insufficient oil pressure. just a thought. Allowing it to sit for ten seconds is possibly allowing the fuel pressure to buid. Filter may be the culprit.
