Default transmission problem

hi i have a 1999 f150 4x4 5.4l. i was driving up a wash and went to turn around, when i put it in reverse it acted like it was in neutral then when i put it in park it made a snapping/ grinding noise. it wont go into any gear and even when its in park you can roll the truck back and forth. any idea what it might be? thanks

I know this might sound dumb, but did something in the rear end snap? Try locking the hubs in and see what happens.

Have you checked the shift linkage for damage?

If you know enough to rip the tranny apart and inspect gears then you should be able to figure out what's up and do a overhaul.
