Transmission Issues
Please help. I have a 04 5.4L V8 2WD. When I drive it with the OD off it seems fine. With OD on the car shifts into neutral around 40mph.
I assumed it was the O ring on the overdrive solenoid.
The dealer said the transmission was shot and quoted me at 3200 for a new one with 1 year warranty. They only charged me 65 for the diagnostic so I doubt he actually checked it over well.
My question is there a other way to check easily without opening it up. I am about to go TDY for awhile and can't easily work on it living in the city now. I do bit have a any engine lights... Thank you

I have an 04' 4x4 5.4 that just started doing the same thing. Saw a utube video on the subject by mustie1 . Yesterday I got the trans filter & gasket to do the job along with the servo piston retainer ring, cost $3.00 at the dealer.
Also got a trans drain plug kit to install while I have the pan off. There are several retainer rings the one for overdrive in my trans was part # F2VY 7384B. Good luck.
