Transfer case removal
Hi home wrenchers, due to a failed torque converter in my 2003, F-150 7700 I am now removing the transfer case, then of course, the transmission.
After the (horrific, (but successful)) torsion bars/torsion bars crossmember removal, I'm now ready to remove the transfer case. The factory service manual (in over simplified instruction) states merely to remove the six, transfer case mounting bolts, after first securing it to an appropriate jack. The bolts are 13mm. My problem is that I don't see how I can exert enough force on them (particularly the top two) to break them loose.
I'm contemplating lowering the (4R100) transmission and transfer case together, rather than first separating the transfer case. Please, if anyone has successfully removed the transfer case (without first lifting the cab) and can offer any advice/tips how to do it, I would appreciate it. If dropping them together (and separating them once they are out of the truck) is the best way, please let me know.
Thank you, Tim

Good morning Barry, thanks for replying. I have the transmission jack. However, after I posted I looked at it again last night and realized the exhaust cross-over pipe runs beneath the transfer case tail housing. I would first have to remove the driver's side portion of the exhaust system. It's an option, but not prepared right now to break exhaust system studs. Am just trying to get transmission out, rebuild, and put it back in w/new torque converter. I had actually planned to completely overhaul the entire truck after I get my winter firewood supply. The torque converter failing forced me to tackle the trans rebuild prematurely.
