Default Transfer Case damage

I have a 2013 F 150, 4 x 4 with the 5 litre. My daughter borrowed the truck ( first time driving it) and drove for about 300 miles. The truck was in 4 High during her trip. It was on bare pavement, she had no idea it should have been in 4 x 2. Anyway since then any time I put it in 4 x 4, I hear a little grinding and clunking, no doubt something was damaged. How much trouble am I in? Would this be a big repair?

Thanks Harvey

The chain is stretched. A mechanic will have to pull it and split the case. Id imagine its an 8 hr job plus the chain. so probably with taxes close to two thousand.

Brian, I did a bit of research and you're probably right.

Thanks

You’re probably better off buying a used transfer case and having it swapped in. Cheaper and less labor intensive.
