Default Thermostat?

My 2007 FX4 is having an issue with Climate Control. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but often it will blow cold air even when the outside temp is 30 degrees. I have tried increasing the temp on the controls all the way up to 90 degrees, but doesn't make a difference. In addition, a lot of times hitting the manual button to have air coming out the vents near the floorboard doesn't work and all the air comes out the vents on the dash, regardless of whether it's heated air or cooled air. I don't like having hot air come out of the dash vents, but can't get it to change to the floor. Has anyone else experience similar problems? I am not sure if it's an issue with the thermostat, or something with the Climate Control system itself.

Sounds like a vacuum control issue on the doors that direct the air flow. Look for or listen for a hissing sound in the dash or under the hood by the fire wall. The hoses are red/green/white/ plastic tubes connected by rubber couplings. These hoses will crack and leak when cold and close up and seal when hot.

Most likely the blend door is broken. Somewhat common and expensive issue out of warranty to fix.

There are plenty of post on this issue.

Would that cause the issue of it working sometimes and other times not? It would seem this might be part of the cause for the air not diverting to the correct vent, but would it have anything to do with blowing cold air when it's supposed to be heating?

Would the blend door cause the unit to blow cold air when it's supposed to be heating? I'll look for some of the other posts.

Yes. The blendoor is inside the air box that houses the A/C coils as well as the heater core. When it closes it only allows the air to pass over the heater core giving you heat. It's possible the blendoor actuating motor is bad and this is under the dash and accessed externally. If the plastic socket on the blendoor is bad it requires the entire removal of the dashboard to get to the airbox. I did mine a year ago. 4 hours out and 4 hours back in and 2 hours to make the repairs. The dealer wanted $1500. Parts w/a new heater core included $150. Check the motor first.
