tailgate won't open

suddenly my tailgate will not open when I lift the handle..it is not locked, seems like a cable or something broke.... do i need to disassemble the handle to get at it? i have an 02 f150. thanks!

You need to take off the panel on the inside to access the linkages, probably one or more of the plastic clips are broken.
