sticky lifter?

Unhappy sticky lifter?

ive got a 97 f-150 4.6 L!when i first stop it up i hear a ticking sound coming from drivers side of engine and it quits after a few minutes.i changed the oil thinking that was the problem but it still does it just not as much!any ideas would be appreciated!

You have a lifter that is bleeding down under the pressure of the valve spring. You can try several products to quiet the lifter but eventually it will have to be changed. Try: Marvel Mystery Oil or Prolong Oil Treatment w/Teflon or SeaFoam Oil Treatment. All of these will take aprox. 100 miles to work.

Lucas oil stabilizer takes that initial tick out most of the time. It keeps more oil on the top end of the engine so you don't have the "dry" cold start.
