Truck will randomly die (battery) within a 5-8 hour period. Mostly overnight. When I say dead, I mean so dead that the door wont even unlock with the key fob. The battery is brand new and checked out good. Even more strange is that once the battery is charged, it may start perfectly fine for months. Or it may be completely drained again within 5-8 hours. No fuses are blown, and when charged everything works perfectly fine. I have no idea what the problem is or could be. Apparently, no one else does either. I am almost to the point of selling this truck due to this issue. I love the truck when it is working correctly, but an undependable vehicle is useless. Please someone help me. This is driving me crazy

Something to checkout, your alternator. These trucks are very sensitive. I had similar issues and after months of time and $. I did a lot of researching. Some of the aftermarket alternators don’t cut it. I had to replace one and didn’t buy the motorcraft for my truck. The computer communicates with the alternator and talks with the transmission aswell. I put an aftermarket in at the time because of the cost of motorcraft. It cost myself more by having to replace a battery afterward and was told by a mechanic that it hand a had on when my transmission failed. There is a regulator in the motorcraft that talks with the computer. If it fails or don’t have the exact alternator in it, it will cause a battery light on your dash even if your battery is good. I went around and around with Oriellys on this matter a lot. Hope this helps.

I have lights, radio, etc. I can put jumper cables on it and it will fire right up. Thinking it may be a relay or the solenoid. Any thoughts or things I can try to help narrow down what could cause this? It only does it once every couple of weeks. Thanks!
clean battery terminals and battery post, altenator might not beat able to charge battery due to poor connect to battery, or weak alternator not charging battery. Have both tested

Default 1997 4.2 no start

I seem to have a similar problem here. 1997 4.2 5 spd btw
My truck cluster lost all power , but the truck was still running until I stopped to turn. It started with a jump and I had to jump it once more to get home. (Total of about 10 blocks between first die out and home) I replaced the starter because I was having problems with it anyway. I bridged the solenoid and can hear the starter spinning but there is no spark, and the cluster is still dead. I have checked the relays/fuses those are good. Any other ideas? Battery is 2 years old terminals were replaced at same time and alt was tested good a couple months ago.
