Slow Acceleration
I have a 2006 F150 5.4L with 230k miles. It’s been at a shop for about a month now for this issue:
When I am driving down a road at a speed (say 45 mph) and floor the gas pedal, the RPMs increase all the way, the truck downshifts, but accelerates very slow. It would probably take somewhere around 10 seconds to increase speed from 45mph to 55mph.
When cruising on the interstate at say 65mph and I want to pass a car in front of me I’ll step on the gas trying to speed up and it’ll slowly accelerate to around 70mph and it won’t get much faster than that. When the truck does finally reach the roughly 70mph mark I’m still stepping on the pedal at about 80% to even 100% pedal to the floor, RPMs still high, but it just won’t accelerate any faster and won’t come close to even 80mph anymore.
My mechanic does not suspect clogged cats. Exhaust sounds clear. Checked cold air intake system (Volant Performance) and everything looks great.
He recently said he found the problem it's pulling out all timing under load and could be causing the “tapping” noise. He said about a week ago that he’s going to look for a bad rocker and check runner controls on intake. And that’s my most recent update.
Has anyone experienced similar performance issues with an 04-08 F150? Or have any additional ideas that could be causing this slow acceleration and almost limiting the speed to 70ish MPH with the pedal pressed all the way to the floor?
This is my first post here so I’m eager for some feedback. Thanks!

what about fuel pump/filter? Also, do you have any pictures or anything from when you installed your Volant system? I have one and I can’t find a good installation video or instructions
I know a guy would have to be there and experience it for himself to know exactly what you mean, but if RPMs go up and the vehicle's speed doesn't respond normally I'd be thinking "transmission." I'm no automatic transmission guy by any means, but that sounds like a torque converter issue to me.

Im having the same issues with my 07 5.4 and was wondering if you ever found the problem????
Thanks in advance!
You need to get the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) read and report back. Basic codes can be read at Autozone or other for free, get those first. More sophisticated code reads exist and may be the next step but there is generally a fee involved.
Often times "shutter" is related to issues with powertrain DTCs that Autozone can read.
