Default Required Jack Range?

Looking to pick up a bottle jack for the garage for a 2019 F150 (no lift). A lot of jacks only have a 6 inch range, which seems insufficient to actually get the front tires of the ground if lifting by the frame. What kind of range do I need to effectively get the front tires lifted? What bottle jacks are you all using?

Your looking at the wrong kind of jack if you want to lift from the frame. In my opinion a bottle jack is only good for road side tire changes. For a garage jack you want a Floor Jack!

I do alot of mechanic work on the side and absolutely love my Daytona 3Ton Floor Jack from Harbor Freight. I caught it on sale for $179 iirc. It replaced a Napa 3Ton i had for a couple years. The Daytona jack is much nicer than the Napa jack. You may find it interesting that Snap-On sued HF over this jack, saying it was identical to there jack. Well Snap-On lost the lawsuit. So with that said if Snap-On is willing to sue saying it was a direct copy of there jack then they must feel that it was a threat.

Almost put this in my original post, guess I should have...We have a very small garage in which every inch counts. I simply don't have room to try to store a floor jack.

I am no more helpful than the others, but using a bottle jack exclusively to raise your vehicle isn't the best option. You need jack stands regardless, you can store the jack stands on top of the floor jack and take up darn new the same space. Remove the handle if required.

Just something to consider......

A good floor jack can be stowed where you park the truck. Drive over it.

I prefer the Torin Big Red low-profile hi-lift 4-ton from Tractor Supply.

The closest one on Amazon is convertible:

But this is another option:

I think the only way a bottle jack will work is if you raise the truck as far as the jack will go, put in some jackstands, lower the bottle jack, and then put some blocking under the jack and raise up the truck again. You'll only raise the truck 6" at a time, but it will work. I did this for a while, but I quickly tired of the all the work just to raise the truck, and I made room in my crowded garage for a floor jack.

A floor jack is a must in my opinion and are usually more stable than a bottle jack, but always use jack stands anyway.
