A re-manufactured long block costs about $2500 dollars. I don't think you would save that much having your engine rebuilt at a local machine shop you would have to find out. As for rebuilding it your self go to Summit Racing, or Jegg's and look at the cost of a rebuilt kit for your engine. Personally with what I have heard about the Triton engines they are not one for a first timer to rebuild.

Yeah, It would be my first time so i don't have any of the special tools, thats why I was wondering what an average price at a shop would be.

The tolerances on Ford Triton/Modular V8's are very tight and there is very little room for error. As far as I am concerned a nice re-manufactured long block is the way to go. If you watch Ford every once and awhile they have sales on complete drop in engines, they are not advertised the only reason I found out about them is I had friends who were mechanics at Ford/Mercury dealers.
