Default rear shocks

I have a 1993 f150, straight 6, auto transmission with o/d, 2 wheel drive, 189k miles. Every time i go over a bump the rear suspension squeaks like . After looking at it while its parked it seems like the rear shocks are worn out, the leaf springs are rubbing on the rubber stops on the frame. it has leaf and coil over springs. do i have to change the coil overs too or do i just change the shocks? or does any one have a better idea of what is worn out. thanks in advance.

The leaf springs are whats squeaking. There are supposed to be plastic discs between the ends of the leaf springs. They wear out allowing the spring leafs to rub together causing the squeak. You can get more from Ford. They are easy to install for 2 people. Just pry the end of the spring down and slip it in.

i got under the truck and moved the suspension, its the spring moving on the frame rail, the spring is moving on the rubber stop. not the spring moving on its self. ill try and get a video of it to post on here of it doing it

I have a theory. The drivers side is made to sit up higher since that is the side your gas tank is on. Otherwise its weak springs and they need to be replaced. Not very expensive from Ford.

arent leaf springs dangerous to change, ive done coil springs countless times but never leafs. also the gas tank sits in the center of the bed, not off to one side.

Leafs are safer than coils to change. Just let the rearend hang and support it by the frame. no tension on them at that point.
