Default Rear Differential

I have a 2004 F150. My garage floor tells me something is leaking near the back axle. I think my rear differential has sprung a leak? How serious is this? Is this a pricey repair? Thanks!

Where is it leaking from? From the pic we can't tell if its from the front pinion seal running down or if its just the back cover gasket.

If its just the rear cover its just a simple gasket and swap old oil with new.
If its the pinion seal its a little more involved but not too bad.

Chances are it's the pinion seal. Not very expensive to repair just need to make sure you torque the pinion nut correctly after changing the seal.

Thanks for the help, guys. I got back under the truck and followed the leak further forward. See these two pics. Is this the pinion seal?

I would mark the exact postion of that pinion nut before removing and torque it back to that position or you likely will have a whining rear end.
